A Caught Iguna in a Cage

Laws Involving Iguana Removal

You do not need a permit to remove Iguanas on your property in the state of Florida, and there are various methods you can use to remove them. However, due to their explosive growth Iguanas are now classified as invasive animals which means that there are some rules with what to do with them when you trap them. In Florida, caught Iguanas must be killed on the property. Florida law prohibits the transfer, sale, and relocation of Iguanas. The killing must also be done Humanely, this means that there must not be any undue suffering inflicted upon the animal, and must be ideally immediate.

How Can I Remove Iguanas Myself?

A Freshly Caught Iguana Near a ResidenceThe most popular way to remove Iguanas is to use a metal cage that is too tough for them to bite through or be opened with their claws. These cages will need to be placed around strategic areas where you will find these iguanas. You add some bait such as fruit or vegetables that Iguanas like to eat. The recommended bait is flowers such as Hibiscus and put them in the cage as a lure. Then the cage will close automatically. It's recommended to get a cage that can fit 10+ Iguanas, as there will be many. Then you can call us for removal. It is illegal to keep wild Iguanas as pets in Florida.

Another method is if you have a pellet gun you can shoot Iguanas on your property. However, you must make sure to get them in one shot. Otherwise, you could go against FWC's humane removal laws.
