Bats are commonly observed in Northern Virginia during the warmer months, particularly from late spring through early fall. They are nocturnal and feed primarily on insects, often roosting in tree cavities, attic voids, and sheltered roofline spaces.

In residential structures, bats may be found near ridge vents, gable vents, chimney caps, and dormer rooflines. Small entry gaps along flashing edges and siding transitions can allow roost access.

Seasonal movement may increase during early summer maternity periods and again in late summer as juveniles begin flying.
